In this paper, we seek to describe and defend a corpus-based approach for analysing texts and discourses. To this aim, we use a data analysis infrastructure developed at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in Dijon. The collected data is transformed into a corpus that is analysed from a construction grammar perspective in order to highlight the textual significance of constructions (function-form pairings) in a specialized discourse. We then introduce the notion of textual function for some constructions, like the <[X] + [être enregistr*] + [Y] + [Z]> construction in the French Finance Discourse. The contribution aims at pleading for...
Quand la référence est soumise au changement : comment construire et interpréter les chaînes entre textualité et ontologie ?French
When reference is subject to change: how to construct and interpret the chains between textuality and ontology?

In my paper, I will deal with cases that illustrate, from textual and referential points of view, the linguistic or textual and (vs) ontological problem which has been called evolving reference by French semanticists: the corpus comprising cooking recipes as well as stories of metamorphosis tends to show a conflict between the principles of thematic organization (continuity) and the change of denomination – in conformity with the physical process as it has been or as it can be recorded by the text. From a methodological point of view, we need to address the question of the diversity of treatments, of their collection, and of the types of texts...
Expressions référentielles et chaînes de référence en français : le projet Democrat et son exploration des rapports entre linguistique textuelle et linguistique de corpusFrench

We present the Democrat project, “Description, modelling and automatic detection of coreference chains in French,” and its four objectives, that is to provide: (i) an integrated, discursive, diachronic and inter-genre description of coreference chains; (ii) a corpus of written French texts with annotated coreference chains; (iii) several tools for visualizing and exploring the coreference chains; (iv) two NLP systems that are able to process raw text written in French and to extract referring expressions as well as coreference chains – which have also brought innovations to the field of deep learning. We present the main results of...

In the paper, we explore cohesive devices in Czech texts written by students – non-native speakers. Specifically, we focus on conjunctions (significantly contributing to text coherence) from the point of view of text genres; we analyse four basic genres, namely narration, information, argumentation and description, and we follow the relative occurrence of text conjunctions across them. Methodologically, we use data obtained from the CzeSL-SGT corpus (AKCES 5; ©ebesta et al., 2014) containing texts written by non-native speakers of Czech. The texts are annotated with text genres, students’ age, text evaluation (A–C levels according...

The aim of this paper is to present the corpus of non-literary texts translated from Spanish into Czech; the translations being elaborated by our translation students. We propose to evaluate the functionalities of two computational tools (Analec and Sketch Engine) in the field of visualization and annotation of coreference elements in translated texts. The electronic corpus allows us to contrast the configurations of the coreference chains in the source and target texts and to analyse subsequently how the translator learners perceive and translate the relationships between the elements of these chains.

This study is a preparatory step for the analysis of the global text structure (global coherence) in the Prague Dependency Treebank. We analyse the phenomena related to the text structure at the global level, their marking having been carried out as a secondary product of the annotation of implicit discourse relations. These phenomena can be divided into four main groups, which we describe in more detail: 1) internal structure of a narrative line, 2) changes of perspective in the text due to the alternation of speakers, 3) external organization of the text, and 4) compositional rules inherent to the given text genre. These elements are summarized in...

In this paper, we propose an analysis of the global text structure, and, at the same time, we formulate some desiderata for the computational processing of this structure. We will first present the key principles of our theoretical approach. Then, we will apply this theoretical framework to the analysis of an excerpt from the text The Power of the Powerless by Václav HAVEL, showing in parallel the correlation of the postulated categories with the annotation model. Finally, we will mention a series of technical proposals that a computational application should take into account in order to be able to integrate our model of the global structure within...
