Global text structure: a corpus study
This study is a preparatory step for the analysis of the global text structure (global coherence) in the Prague Dependency Treebank. We analyse the phenomena related to the text structure at the global level, their marking having been carried out as a secondary product of the annotation of implicit discourse relations. These phenomena can be divided into four main groups, which we describe in more detail: 1) internal structure of a narrative line, 2) changes of perspective in the text due to the alternation of speakers, 3) external organization of the text, and 4) compositional rules inherent to the given text genre. These elements are summarized in a table that presents the existing and the upcoming aspects of textual coherence in the Prague Dependency Treebank, which our study aims to enrich.
