Neological verbs in the digital space: French-Italian comparative study

The Internet, as a communicative space, plays an important role in shaping contemporary language fostering the intensification of word-formation processes and the adaptation of new lexical units. A particularly noteworthy phenomenon in this context is the emergence of verbal neologisms resulting from the assimilation of terms related to digital culture, social media, and communication practices characteristic of the online environment. Verbs such as googler/googlare, ghoster/ghostare or retweeter/retwittare are examples of linguistic hybrids, often borrowed from English and adapted to the inflectional system of French and Italian. The aim of this article is to provide a structural analysis together with semantic remarks on selected units, as well as to identify the mechanisms for the creation of verbal neologisms from a French-Italian contrastive perspective.
