Phonetic Perspectives in Franco-Czech Reciprocity
The paper describes the beginnings and development of relations between French and Czech scientists in the field of phonetics. First, it presents scholars who were at the beginning of the development forming of phonetics in the Czech environment, and are associated with the creation or subsequent of the Institute of Phonetics, which was established at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. The above-mentioned linguists are namely Josef Chlumský, Emanuel ©rámek, Bohuslav Hála, Karel Ohnesborg, Georges (Jiøí) Straka, and Marie Boøek-Dohalská. Furthermore, the article outlines the projects, platforms, conferences, and seminars (such as the highly successful 6th Congress of Phonetic Sciences or the Symposium on Intonology) at which Czech and French phoneticians got together, participated, and thanks to which they strengthened their working relationships, which were over time in many cases transformed into personal and friendly relationships as well.
